Suspect in shooting of off-duty BPD officer turns himself in

PINSON, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect has been charged in connection with a Monday night shooting of an off-duty Birmingham police officer.

Andrew Devon Morgan, 33, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday evening. He’s charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and attempted murder. His bond is set at $175,000.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Randy Christian says an off-duty Birmingham Police Department officer was shot Monday night on Gold Lead Lane in Pinson.

Christian says an adult female friend was at the officer’s house when Morgan came to the home and knocked on the door.

The officer opened the door and was shot at three times. Christian says the 37-year-old officer was shot three times and was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
