BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Most people have heard taking an aspirin a day could help prevent a heart attack. But a new decision by the FDA suggests it might not be that simple.
The FDA says it doesn’t believe aspirin prevents a first heart attack. If someone already had a heart attack or stroke, or has a known history of heart disease, then the FDA says a daily dose of aspirin can serve as a preventative measure.
The FDA says you should speak to your doctor before taking aspirin daily to weigh the benefits versus the risks.
