Pleasant Grove man rearrested on additional sexual abuse charge

PLEASANT GROVE, Ala. (WIAT) — Authorities in Jefferson County rearrested and charged a 58-year-old Pleasant Grove man for sexual abuse Wednesday.

Tyrone Banks was taken into custody at his lawyer’s office Wednesday morning, according to Pleasant Grove Police Sgt. Danny Reid.

Additional charges were filed against Banks after another teenage victim came forward.

He’s being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a first-degree sexual abuse charge without bond.

Banks was arrested on May 2 and charged with rape by forcible compulsion and first-degree sodomy.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Randy Christian says the first incident happened on April 12, 2014.

The 13-year-old victim spent the evening with Banks, who is a friend of the family.

Christian says Banks took the girl to a Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he claims to be an associate pastor.

He took the girl into the church kitchen and sexually assaulted her before driving her back home.

The girl told her mother when she returned home and the incident was reported to police.

Banks initially posted $120,000 bond and was released on May 4.

Reid urges any other victims to come forward and notify law enforcement.
