Birmingham police investigating Wednesday homicide

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police are investigating a shooting that left a 24-year-old Birmingham man to the hospital where he later died.

The shooting happened Wednesday in the 200 block of 16th Place Southwest.

Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards says officers with the West Precinct were called to Princeton Hospital around 4 a.m. after they received information about a person shot.

They spoke with the brother of Jeffery Hines. Hines’ brother told authorities he went with Hines to check on Hines’ child.

Edwards says while Hines was on the front porch, someone fired a shot out of the front door, striking Hines in the head.

He was taken to Princeton Hospital in a private vehicle. Hines was pronounced dead by UAB medical staff Friday.

The case is being investigating as a homicide.
