WEST BLOCTON, Ala. (WIAT) — A murder suspect is behind bars Friday morning. The Bibb County District Attorney, Michael Jackson, tells CBS42 that the murder actually happened in Georgia, but the body was dumped behind a building on Alabama Street in West Blocton.
Chief Keith Whatley tells CBS42 he and an officer came out to the old Continental Club after getting a call from deputies in Louisiana. The deputies told the chief they had picked up a man who was claiming that he dumped a body in West Blocton.
They searched the wooded area just behind the building and found a man’s body exactly where they were told to look. Jackson says the victim has been identified as Tion Casterman.
The place where the body was found is so out of the way that the police chief believes the suspected killer has ties to the West Blocton community.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case, and will figure out who the dead man is and how he was killed.
For now, 21-year-old Teon Graham is being held in Louisiana on an outstanding felony theft warrant out of Tuscaloosa.
They expect he’ll be extradited to Bibb County next week to face murder charges.
Meanwhile, an autopsy on the unidentified body will be performed in Alabama.
Authorities will have to use dental records to determine the man’s identity because the body was so badly decomposed.
