Cherokee Bend Elementary School teacher named Alabama Teacher of the Year


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama’s state Teacher of the Year award was presented Wednesday to a Birmingham-area teacher during a ceremony in Montgomery.

Ann Marie Corgill, who teaches the fourth grade at Cherokee Bend Elementary School, was named the 2014-2015 Alabama Teacher of the Year.

As the winner, she’ll spend time as ambassadors for public education and the teaching profession during the 2014-2015 school year.

Corgill and two of the four finalists are in the WIAT 42 News area.

Ellen Anson, a special education teacher at Rocky Ridge Elementary School in Hoover is nominated. Carrie Jones, who teaches exceptional needs children at Hewitt-Trussville High School was also nominated.
