Sentencing delayed for man convicted of killing his 4-year-old stepson

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — A Bessemer man who killed his 4-year-old special needs stepson will find out how much time he will serve on June 2.

Sentencing for Jeremy Coleman, 37, was delayed until the beginning of June during a court appearance Wednesday. He was found guilty in March of beating his stepson Marcus Hill to death in 2010.

Coleman claimed the child fell down the stairs.

The mother of the victim is scheduled to go to trial in the fall.

Coleman maintains his innocence. He was charged with capital murder, but the jury convicted him of felony murder.
