BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Warmer weather has finally arrived in Alabama, but spring and summer come with a new set of problems – the threat of mosquitoes.
Some trucks have already been out spraying for the pesky bugs.
It’s a great way to get rid of mosquitoes, which can carry the West Nile Virus and other diseases.
Still, there are other things that can be done around your home to keep mosquitoes at bay.
Remove any standing water in your yard, which can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
They also like the old firewood you may have stacked around and piles of old wet leaves.
You can also grow your own insect repellants. Citronella, basil and catnip are good choices.
