GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) – A judge is set to hear legal arguments in the case of an Alabama woman charged in the running death of her 9-year-old granddaughter.
Etowah County Circuit Judge William Ogletree scheduled a hearing for Friday morning for Joyce Garrard. She’s charged with capital murder in the death of Savannah Hardin more than two years ago.
Garrard’s lawyers are asking the judge to dismiss the case over allegations prosecutors have failed to turn over information about possible expert witnesses.
Prosecutors say they haven’t withheld anything. They’re asking the judge to seal all future motions to prevent what they portray as defense grandstanding.
Garrard is set to go on trial June 23. She denies accusations that she killed the girl by making her run for three hours as punishment for lying.
