Bond denied for woman accused of running granddaughter to death

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — An Etowah County woman accused of forcing her 9-year-old granddaughter to run to her death will not get out of jail anytime soon.

A judge denied bond for Joyce Garrard Friday.

The 46-year-old is charged with capital murder for the death of Savannah Hardin, who died in 2012.

Earlier this week, Garrard’s attorneys asked the judge to dismiss her case.

They claim prosecutors have taken too long to turn over necessary evidence for the case against Garrard.

The judge denied the request. Instead, he moved the trial date from June to September.
