Pelham teen signed by the LA Galaxy of the MLS

PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Jake Trainor was diagnosed with cancer three years ago. Now, Trainor, a Pelham native, is cancer free and will be traveling across the country next week to fulfill one of his biggest dreams.

Trainor, 15, will be visiting Los Angeles to spend some time with the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer. He was signed by the team Thursday.

The team sent him a soccer ball, a scarf and a personalized jersey signed by Landon Donovan.

He says he hopes to get a scrimmage in and, hopefully, score some goals. Having dealt with chemo, Trainor has a new outlook after beating his illness.

“It was tough, but now I’ve gone through it. I can face anything now,” Trainor said.

Trainor, his parents and all three of his siblings will be at practice Tuesday and on the field for a soccer match Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
