Graduation parties and Alabama’s open house part law

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — High school graduation season is upon us, and with it comes the all-important celebration. The graduation parties can get out of hand though, especially if parents allow underage drinking.

Alabama has an open house party law. This means adults who allow minors to drink alcohol on their property will be held legally responsible. And it’s happened to parents from Greystone, Hoover, Birmingham, Calhoun Count, and many more. Violating the law could land you in jail for six months, and face fines.

If a minor leaves a party at a home where alcohol is served and they’re involved in an accident, the homeowner could face additional charges as well
