BIRMINGHAM,Ala. (WIAT) — As the Birmingham Zoo gears up for the summer season, it’s also making plans to expand. The Birmingham Zoo board approved $15 million worth of upgrades.

Upgrades include renovating the front entrance and plaza, as well as adding an Asian forest addition. To learn more about the zoo, click here.

The Birmingham Zoo is supporting members of the military, past and present. The zoo is offering free admission for Memorial Day.

This weekend, all active, disabled and retired military personnel can get into the zoo for free. Their families don’t have to pay to get in either. All that needs to be presented is a valid military identification.
