HAMILTON, Ala. (WIAT) — Thirty-year old Terrance Edwards has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after he attacked a Hamilton police officer on Friday night. Edwards approached the officer who was patrolling an intersection and stabbed him in the head and arm.
Another person that was nearby tried to help the officer and ended up injured, but that person was treated at the hospital and released on Friday night.
A blood trail led police to Edwards, who was in the backyard of his mother’s home. His mother, Judy Edwards, was also arrested and charged with obstruction and resisting arrest.
The Hamilton police officer had surgery at North Mississippi Medical Center on Saturday morning and is recovering, according to Hamilton Police Chief Ronny Victory. The officer has been identified as Eric Zills.
