GARDENDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — Gardendale Police have arrested three men they say accessed Regions Bank customer’s accounts to purchase gift cards.
The suspects, all from Maryland, are identified as 25-year-old Samuel Bamidele Cole, 32-year-old Olakunle Oluwaseun Ijiti, and 32-year-old Antwi K. Boamong. All three are charged with Trafficking in Stolen Identities.
The men were taken into custody at the Gardendale Wal-Mart after purchasing nearly $3,000 worth of gift cards in less than 30 minutes. The Regions Bank Card Monitoring Group was able to detect the fraudulent purchases in real time, and alerted Wal-Mart Loss Prevention and police, who then arrested the suspects in the parking lot.
Cole, Ijiti and Boamung are in the Jefferson County Jail on $1,000,000 bond each. Gardendale Police say more arrests are possible.
