BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — The man accused of trying to kidnap a young girl and then kidnapping a woman is no stranger to investigators on both sides of the badge.
George Salum was a police officer in Montgomery for 20 years. In 2005, he was accused of handing over an officer’s personnel file and picture of government witness to a private investigator.
The private investigator was working for defendants in a drug case. A conviction followed, along with a 30-month federal prison sentence.
Salum is now charged with kidnapping, enticing a child for immoral purposes, attempting to elude police and resisting arrest. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail on $80,000 bond.
