OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) – The trial for a man accused of fatally shooting three people at a party in Auburn in 2012 has been delayed from next week until September.

Desmonte Leonard was originally scheduled to go on trial June 3 in Opelika, but Circuit Judge Jacob Walker III moved it to Sept. 22 at the defense’s request.

Leonard, 24, of Montgomery is charged with capital murder, attempted murder and assault in the killing of DeMario Pitts of Opelika and former Auburn football players Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian during a pool party on June 9, 2012.

This is the second delay for the trial. It was originally set for April, but was postponed by agreement of both sides. Attorneys say the trial could take two to three weeks.
