GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) — Sources tell FOX10 News Phillip Jones, the brother of NFL and former Alabama star Julio Jones was the victim of a shooting that happened in Gulf Shores on Tuesday, May 27.
Phillip Columbo Jones, 31, of Foley, was transported from South Baldwin Urgent Care to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center and then transported by Baptist LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.
According to a relative, Jones’ arm had to be removed due to injuries sustained from the gunshot wound.
According to authorities, Gulf Shores Police responded to South Baldwin Urgent Care located at 101 E.15th Avenue in reference to a man who was brought in after suffering a gunshot wound. When the officers arrived they were able to determine that the incident occurred at a residence on Yupon Drive.
Authorities said during the investigation GSPD detectives obtained information indicating George Bennett Sutton, 53, of Gulf Shores, shot Phillip Columbo Jones.
George Bennett Sutton was booked into the Gulf Shores Police Detention Center for Assault in the first degree, a Class B felony. At this time Sutton is awaiting transfer to the Baldwin County Detention Center.
Authorities said, although a suspect has been arrested the investigation continues.
