BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Nine cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been confirmed in people who were at UAB Women and Infant building on floors 5,6, and 7, according to a Jefferson County health officer.
The ninth case was a visitor to the building. The visitor tested positive, but they don’t know if he got it from the building, as the bacteria does occur in the environment.
Only two of the people who tested positive for the legionella bacteria have died, and there’s still no positive indication that the infections caused the deaths.
