Jeff. Co sheriff to host survival skills summer camp for kids

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Now that school is out for the summer, many children are getting ready to go off to camp. Some are far away from home, while others are in our backyard.

One camp tests students’ survival skills. Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale is hosting his annual Be Prepared, Not Scared summer camp.

It teaches students entering fifth through seventh grade safety, self-defense and survival skills. Some of the topics they’ll cover include what to do when severe weather strikes, or if a gunman enters their school.

Gun safety is also on the agenda. To learn more about the camps, including how you can register your child, call (205) 335-3483.
