BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — As you make your plans for this weekend keep in mind of several construction zones that could cause you some delays.
I-459 southbound from US-11 to south of Grants Mill road.
This zone will tie up the outside and center lanes for paving of the road. Expect this zone to be in operation beginning Friday night at 7pm until 6am Saturday morning. ALDOT tells us they should be completing this zone on Saturday without having to close this area next week.
State route 149 (Lakeshore Dr/Shades Creek Parkway) from the intersection of Cahaba Road near US-280 in Mountain Brook to the intersection with Green Springs Hwy in Homewood.
Crews will be striping this area as well as installing markers and raised reflective pavement markers. This zone will start Friday at 10pm through Saturday at 7am. Crews will work the same schedule from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Expect this zone to be active each weekend for two weeks.
Hwy 150 from I-459 to US-31 in Hoover.
Crews will be striping this area beginning Friday at 10pm through Saturday 7am. They plan to also work Saturday night into Sunday morning. Expect this zone to be active each weekend for two weeks.
While crews will not be working along I-65 southbound from Daniel Payne Drive to Malfunction Junction, expect to see equipment and possible stop and go traffic as you make your way through this work zone. You will also see delays if you travel I-22 (Corridor X). Plan to be diverted to Hwy 78 where you will be taken through downtown Jasper. This is a congested traffic area with so many drivers using this detour. Add to that the stop lights and regular city traffic and you will see travel delays. If you plan to travel this route this weekend, I would allow an additional 20 minutes to allow for the detour.
