70-year-old woman shot at retirement home dies from injuries

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The elderly woman shot at a retirement community Monday afternoon has died, according to Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards.

He says 70-year-old Jessie Taylor died Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in the shooting.

Taylor was shot by an elderly man in a wheelchair at an Ensley retirement community Monday afternoon.

Police say Taylor was in a dating relationship with the suspect. The suspect shot Taylor while the two were in the lobby and wheeled himself back to his room. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
