TARRANT, Ala. (WIAT) — Budget problems are leading to cutbacks in Tarrant. The city council is eliminating 11 jobs in five departments.
Tarrant’s police, fire and public works departments are all losing three positions. The council is also laying off one librarian and one employee in parks and recreation.
Tarrant leaders say the decisions are tough but necessary.
The mayor of Tarrant tells WIAT 42 News Tarrant had to cut the 11 positions because revenue is lower than expected. He also says the city is dealing with higher insurance and social security costs.
