Legionnaires’ patients, families retain Birmingham law firm

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A Birmingham law firm is now representing the patients and family members of three people who contracted legionella bacteria at UAB Hospital.

One of those people died from the illness. Although no lawsuit has been filed yet, attorney Todd Wheeles litigated a similar case before in Calhoun County, which ended in a $4.5 million judgment.

It’s not yet clear exactly how many people came in contact with the bacteria at UAB.

Two people who tested positive for the bacteria died.
