Fire breaks out at Phoenix Building in Birmingham

Phoenix buildingBIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Late Thursday, while many residents of the Phoenix Building in Birmingham’s loft district were preparing to turn in for the night, they were forced to leave their homes instead. A fire broke out at the building, located on 2nd Ave North, around 11 p.m.

Officials tell WIAT 42 the fire started in one apartment. The sprinkler system was activated, and everybody was quickly evacuated. Most of the apartments suffered water damage from the sprinkler system. There is no word at this time on how many people were displaced.
