UAB says hospital is free of legionella bacteria traces

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UAB Hospital says it is now free of any traces of the legionella bacteria. The Jefferson County Health Department, Alabama Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention agree.

Floors 5, 6 and 6 and the Women and Infants Center are clean. Precautions were put into place after nine patients and a hospital visitor tested positive for legionella.

Two of the people who tested positive died.
