BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — It’s one of the oldest rivalries in the Southeast. And even though football season is still months away, Las Vegas is taking bets for who will win this years Iron Bowl.
So who does Sin City think will prevail in the matchup? the gambling powerhouse is picking the Crimson Tide by six.
Sports fans who talked to WIAT 42 NEWS seemed pretty mixed on the announcement. Especially given the events of last years game.
The final few seconds of the 2013 Iron Bowl are something no Alabama or Auburn fan will ever forget.
“That was a tough tough loss,” says Alabama dan Josh Goodman. “Oh I threw up. I got physically sick and threw up. I couldn’t help it man I cried like a baby.”
It seemed like only a blink of an eye and Auburn was there running away with the conference title.
“It was the most amazing thing ever,” says Auburn alumnae Roger Lugo. “I mean it was very difficult because you’re coming off a Georgia win and then the next thing you know the most incredible thing happens.”
Now on the cusp of a new season, both sides are confident their team will be victorious in this years Iron Bowl.
“Alabama! Roll tide! Fourteen points easy,” says Goodman.
Logo offers a little more statistical evidence to back up his beliefs.
“They gave up 300 yards rushing,” he says. “And I just don’t see them stopping it. We have four returning starters on the offense line, we’re plugging in a pretty veteran replacement that’s already experienced. I just don’t see them stopping us.”
What else can’t be stopped, the amount of money loyal fans are willing to pay for a seat at the November 29th game.
A quick check of EBay, craigslist, Stubhub, razorgator.com and other websites show tickets for the big game priced between $250 and $3,500. Many fans expect those prices to skyrocket as the day of the game gets closer.
“Well I think of you want down on the 50 yard line you’re going to be dropping about 6 grand,” says football fan Matt Williams. “Somebody’s going to do it. Somebody’s going to scalp it and spend that much money and do it for sure.”
So who’s going to pay that much for tickets? Most people who talked to WIAT 42 NEWS say not them. They claim to have a “hook up” for cheap tickets. But all agree SEC fans are loyal and someone will pay outrageous money to attend the Iron Bowl.
