NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — They already do so much for the community but now, local firefighters are going the extra mile to support people suffering from breast cancer.
Over at Northport Fire and Rescue, they’ve designed a special t-shirt. Firefighters actually wear them during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, but people call asking to buy them, year-round. Through t-shirt sales, they’ve raised about $3500 this year for the DCH Foundation.
Battalion Chief Jason Norris of Northport Fire says it’s just part of the job, “Well, that’s what we’re here for. I’ve mentioned before [that] a lot of us, we love getting into the community. We feel like we’re a civic organization that just happens to put out fires.”
All of the money raised, stays in west Alabama. You can still buy a shirt for $5, and in October they’ll have a new design.
