BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police say the streets are safer after a year-long investigation produced 15 arrests. Operation Recoil resulted in the arrests of 15 on gun and drug charges.
Federal agents say seven of the suspects stole credit card information and then used the information to buy firearms illegally on the internet.
“Our department’s number one priority is reducing violent crime,” said Birmingham police Chief A.C. Roper. “We have reported historic reductions of crime in the city of Birmingham in the past years, but much work remains to be done.”
Roper says Operation Recoil was a team effort between the ATF, U.S. Marshals and Birmingham police.
