Fourteen year-old human trafficking victim able to escape in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A 14 year-old girl does whatever she can to call police and escape from a Tuscaloosa hotel where police say she was held captive and forced to have sex with several men.

The girl disappeared two weeks ago. Her family reported her missing in Jackson, Mississippi. Police say she was being passed around in two states, a victim of human trafficking. She ended up in Tuscaloosa hotels on Veterans Memorial Parkway and McFarland Boulevard.

The girl eventually managed to sneak a phone call to her grandmother who traced the location and called police.

So far one man, Kornelius Simmons has been charged with 2nd degree rape, but police have identified another suspect. More state and federal charges are expected to be filed in this case.
