Pinson man cuts wife’s neck, faces domestic violence charge

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A violent fight with his wife landed a Pinson man in jail. Police say he slit his wife’s throat in the parking lot of a Sam’s Club.

Richard Umphrey, 28, is in the Jefferson County Jail and is charged with second-degree domestic violence. His bond is set at $30,000.

Police say Umphrey met up with his wife in the parking lot of the Sam’s Club on Trussville Crossings Parkway. Surveillance footage shows the couple arguing before Umphrey slit her throat.

His wife then drove herself to a nearby urgent care facility and received five stitches.
