Authorities investigating vandalism of at least 10 churches


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Investigators with several Jefferson County law enforcement agencies are investigating reports of vandalism of at least ten area churches.

Mountain View Baptist Church, Good Samaritan Church, Center Point Independent Church and Solid Rock Church all reported vandalism to their buildings.  Several churches in Pleasant Grove, Hueytown, and Birmingham also reported their churches had also been vandalized,

In Birmingham, the Northeast YMCA on Red Lane Road also reported the same type f vandalism.

Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says the walls, doors and grounds of churches in the county were spray painted with graffiti.  Similar markings were found on the entrances of all three churches, Christian says.

Two individuals are being questioned for the vandalism that occurred in Center Point. according to the sheriff’s office, but they are unsure of their involvement at this time.
