CULLMAN, Ala. (AP) – A north Alabama father wants a grand jury to review charges that he killed the man who admitted sexually abusing his daughter.
Defense attorney Tommy Drake of Cullman filed a motion Friday waiving a preliminary hearing and asking the court to send the case to grand jurors.
Police have charged with the father with murder in the shooting of 59-year-old Raymond Earl Brooks, who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the man’s daughter in 2001. He served 27 months in jail.
Grand jurors could indict the man, or they could refuse to issue any charges.
The man also is charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at a stepdaughter’s boyfriend minutes before Brooks was killed.
The Associated Press isn’t naming the suspect to protect his daughter’s identity.
