Superhero 5K to support neglected and abused children

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) – It is a very sad statistic. More than 4 children die every day as the result of child abuse. This weekend though there is a way you can help abused and neglected children, and all you have to do is put on your running shoes.

4AE97A93039643BEA0040456DB57F431The first ever Superheroes 5k and fun run kicks off Saturday with all the money raised going towards Owen’s House in Shelby County. Owen’s House is an organization that helps hundreds of children each year. The children are victims of physical, sexual, even emotional abuse.

“We consider kids that are brave enough to talk about their experiences to be heroes,” says Cindy Greer, Executive Director of Owen’s House, “also in the community I think that everybody can step up and and be a super hero for kids.”

The event starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Veteran’s Park in Hoover, with registration is at 7 a.m. Kids will be able to enjoy face painting, inflatables,  games and great food.

Don’t forget to bring your favorite superheroes costume because there will be a contest for the best one.
