Man charged with vandalism at one Jefferson County church

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) - One person has been charged in connection to the vandalism that happened at Mountain View Baptist Church in Birmingham.

Eja Cree was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Friday and is charged with first-degree criminal mischief after it was determined that he was involved with vandalism at more than ten Jefferson County churches that happened late Thursday evening into early Friday morning.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies took Cree and another suspect into custody at the Center Point substation for questioning Friday afternoon according Chief Deputy Randy Christian. They were also questioned by Hueytown police and FBI agents.

The second suspect was released after investigators determined his lack of involvement.

Additional charges are pending against Cree for the vandals of the other churches that were vandalized.
