BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) is asking drivers to slow down and pay attention in work zones. The group has found that drivers and passengers are more likely than road workers to be injured or killed in those areas.
In May, the group announced they are calling on the federal government to step up and pay for the new safety measures in work zones. They want concrete barricades to protect workers on busy highway repair projects.
The AGC says construction barrels, reduced speed limits and police presence aren’t enough to guarantee safety if drivers aren’t paying attention.
It’s important to remember to obey posted speed limits when entering a work zone. It’s also important to limit your distractions and keep your eyes on the road.
