BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The city of Selma was abuzz as filming began for the movie “Selma” yesterday.
Part of the downtown area has been taken over by movie crews, and the Edmund Pettus bridge has been shut down for filming purposes. Local Becky Dagostin told us there was just so much excitement in the town, and many were hoping for a glance of Brad Pitt.
Brad Pitt and Oprah Winfrey are two of the big names producing the film about Martin Luther King Jr. and his role in the Selma voting rights movement. Winfrey has a part in the movie and is in town shooting scenes.
Crews will be in Selma shooting until Thursday. The Edmund Pettus bridge will also be shut down during this time until 8 pm Thursday night.
On Friday, Montgomery residents can get excited as crews will make their way there for more filming.
