Tuscaloosa police warning about Green Dot prepaid card scam

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – The Tuscaloosa Police Department is sending out a warning about a scam that could rob people blind. The department has received several complaints from people who have received phone calls from folks they don’t know requesting money.

They claim they’re from a utility company, government agency or a fundraising organization.

They use scare tactics to get the money. They say you need to pay a bill, make a donation, or purchase a Green Dot prepaid card. If you get a call that sounds like that, hang up and call police.
