Group holding hunger strike for immigration reform

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Every day, 1100 families who come into this country illegally are separated. Many say it’s because of a lack of immigration reform.

Now, a group is showing support for those families by staging a hunger strike, and they hope to make their voices heard by fathering outside Congressman Spencer Bachus’ Birmingham office.

They say Bachus, who is leaving Congress in November, has said in the past that he supports immigration reform, but he’s never taken any action to get the laws changed.

Thousands of children are now being held in overcrowded border patrol facilities. As for right now, the government is planning to turn an empty warehouse in south Texas into a facility where 1,000 unaccompanied children can be housed and processed.
