Northport man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female minor

NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) – On Monday evening Tuscaloosa County Homicide investigators responded to a sexual assault call at a home near the 15000 block of Beacon Point Drive. The victim, a 16-year-old female, who was reportedly visiting a friend at the home, told officers that she was sexually assaulted by a male subject who lived at the residence. The suspect, James Burns, has been taken into custody and transported to homicide for questioning.

The investigators on scene examined the area and spoke with witnesses. A release from the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit says that is appears alcohol played a large role in the incident. The victim was transported to DCH regional medical where she was treated and later released. The investigation into the incident continued on throughout the day of June 24th.

James Burns, 62, was arrested and charged with first-degree Sexual Abuse and first-degree Sodomy. He has been transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $50,000 bond.
