BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Is it possible you kids are getting too many vitamins from their cereal? A new report on food with added nutrients, like vitamin A, Zinc, and Niacin revealed the shocking warning.
The Environmental Working Group finds that nearly half of young children eat potentially harmful amounts of fortified cereals and snack bars. Labels on cereals and snacks refer to the recommended percent of daily values for nutrition content, but what people don’t know is those numbers are based on adults. This is misleading to parents.
Although the FDA is currently updating nutrition fact labels that appear on most food packages, none of the proposed changes address this issue of over-consumption of fortified micro-nutrients.
