BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — American soccer fans gathered at an unusual place for watch the United States’ final group match against Germany Thursday morning. Fans gathered at the Birmingham Public Library and took part in more whispering than cheering.
People grabbed chairs, passed around popcorn and enjoyed the game without all the rowdiness.
“We just want to show that the library is more than just books, and computers, that we’re here for the community,” said Vincent Solfronk. “We do other events, we show tv shows, and movies and things like that, and with the popularity of soccer, we want to invite the public to the library to watch the soccer games.”
