Chilton County woman may be allowed to move mailbox to safer spot

CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – A Chilton County woman who relies on a wheelchair has been fighting to get her mailbox moved off a busy highway. When Penny Franklin first contacted WIAT 42 News, she was in a dispute with U.S. Postal Service over a request to put her mailbox inside her driveway so she wouldn’t have to cross two lanes of traffic.

Now, it looks like both sides seem to have found a compromise that will let her move it to a safer spot.

After WIAT 42 News reached out to the postal service, we found out Franklin may qualify for a special exception.

She sent off some paperwork and is just waiting for the final answer with her fingers crossed.
