Passenger security fees set to rise for airports

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — When budgeting for your summer vacation plans, if you plan on flying to your destination, it might be smart to put a little more money towards travel. Starting July 21st, passenger security fees will increase at US airports.

The current security fees range anywhere from $5 to $10, no matter how many planes you take. Starting on July 21st though there will be a flat fee of $5.60 imposed on each direction no matter how many planes you board en-route.

Another possible side effect of the new fees may be even higher costs for anyone who gets stuck in long layovers. The new price hike will benefit the TSA’s security efforts while offsetting spending in the federal budget.
