HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT)- Saturday afternoon Mayor Gary Ivey of Hoover released this statement on the traffic fatalities that claimed the lives of multiple people on I-459 this past week:

Mayor Gary Ivey stated, “During the past week our City experienced four fatalities arising from three separate traffic accidents on Interstate 459. Our prayers and thoughts are with the families of these accident victims and their lost lives should serve as a reminder to each of us to drive extra carefully as we approach the July Fourth holiday weekend.”

“While these fatalities are unrelated to traffic barriers separating the north and south bound lanes of I-459, City officials will continue to work with ALDOT Director John Cooper and his staff to install these barriers as quickly as possible.” Ivey further stated, “We deeply appreciate ALDOT, the Department of Public Safety and our Alabama State Troopers continued willingness to work with us to make the Interstate highways in our City as safe as possible.”
