Explosion, fire kills one in Hoover neighborhood

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE: Arson has been ruled as the cause of the explosion at the Hoover home. Hoover police also say the man who set off the explosion turned a gun on himself.

ORIGINAL: The incident happened in the 1800 block of Burning Tree Circle in Hoover about 11:30 Sunday morning.

Hoover Police spokesperson Captain Jim Coker says investigators do not know just yet what caused the explosion. Police and fire personnel spent the day piecing together what may have happened. Crews will remain at the home for the rest of the night to continue their investigation.

One person died in the home.  The name of the victim has not been released.

Neighbors say four men lived in the house as roommates, three of them were able to escape.

They went on to say, they were told by the homeowner that the man who died was a roommate, but they didn’t know him well.
He lived in the basement. There was a disagreement between the other roommates and him and he is the one who caused the explosion.
