BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - Here’s your chance at a spot in a national theater tour beginning next year. Actress/Director Robin Givens is bringing the play “Joy in the Morning” to Birmingham. It’s about a woman who loses her husband, and, subsequently, her faith. The play chronicles the journey she takes in restoring her belief in God.
Givens is directing the play. She says her first experience with the play was a decade ago, in a stage reading alongside James Avery, Yolanda Adams, and Johnny Gill at Carnegie Hall. She says she chose Birmingham to kick off the play because of her previous experience teaching acting classes at Miles College.
“I just know there’s such wonderful talent here…I sort of fell in love with it, it became a little bit of home for me in that respect and I wanted to sort of incorporate all of the talent I know is here,” Givens said.
The play is set for a national tour in February. An open casting call is Monday, June 30th at 4:30 pm at the Westin Hotel. You can call (205) 490-4322 for more information.
The performance of “Joy in the Morning” will be August 9th at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
