Operation W.E. brings clothing, food and medical help to hundreds

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – About two thousand people lined up outside the Boutwell Auditorium Saturday for a chance to take the things they need, for free.

New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church teamed up to host Operation W.E. Sunday. The event kicked off with a gospel concert at Linn Park.

$96,000 worth of food was given away to those in need. The church purchased the food with help of Christian Service Mission.

Thanks to clothing donations from both congregations, the Boutwell Auditorium was turned into a department store for the day where people could go inside and take anything they need.

“We want to lend a handout because there are people who are hurting and really do need food a clothing and we provided those items free. But once the food is gone and the clothes are worn out, I want them to have Christ still living in their hearts and knowing they can overcome the adversities that come in their live,” said Pastor Michael Wesley of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church.
