BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — It’s a warning from the Department of Family and Protective Services that every parent needs to hear.
Co-sleeping deaths are at an all-time high. 164 infants have died so far this year. Doctors say these deaths are 100% preventable. Experts say babies should always sleep in a separate crib or bassonette.
If parents want to sleep with their child you can do it safely by removing blankets and pillows.
Even if your child is in his or her own crib, there are still safety measures you should follow:
- Install a firm mattress with no gaps
- Tight bedding
- No loose pillows or blankets
- No stuffed toys
