Body confirmed to be that of missing Calhoun County woman

ANNISTON, Ala. (WIAT) — Anniston police say the body found in a car in a heavily wooded ravine off of County Road 24 has been positively identified as that of 45-year-old Margie Mize.

The preliminary cause of death has not been released.

Anniston Police Department Capt. Allen George says the car, which belongs to Mize, was discovered by investigators as they walked he should of the roadways. Mize has been missing since June 24.

George says the vehicle appeared to have left the road, strike a large tree and overturn in the ravine, which made it impossible to be seen by passing motorists.

The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy and identification.

Mize’s dog, Katie, was also found inside the car. Despite attempts from the Anniston Animal Control, the dog evaded capture.

George says Mize’s family will attempt to find Katie.
